Viomi Robot Vacuum V3 Max
This is a LiDAR robot vacuum-mop hybrid by Xiaomi. What is LiDAR? It is light and detection ranging. This usually means a robot vacuum can perform even in the dark. This laser-scanning robot vacuum has 24 types of sensors and utilizes the Map 2.0 system. It calls itself a 3-in-1 due to its:
- Sweeping
- Mopping
- Vacuuming
There are also three cleaning modes:
- Sweep only
- Mop only
- Sweep and mop
The V3 Max can remove dust, dirt, crumbs, pet hair, footprints, and water stains from different floors. There are soft and hard fiber stripped mops.
With the press of a button, the V3 Max’s dustbin will empty. As for the electric water tank, it helps mop without leaking. You can get a supersized 700 ml water tank separately.
More about LiDAR
- It learns your home’s layout.
- It builds and saves smart maps fast.
- It includes infrared sensors.
- It prevents collisions and falls.
How good is the V3 Max’s LiDAR? Well, it is good in general, but it may push lighter objects to clean under them, which is generally okay unless you have something fragile on the floor or something that holds objects you do not want to tip over.
More about Map 2.0
- It can store five floors’ maps.
- It can divide, merge, or name zones on the map.
- It can assign separate cleaning areas.
Please note that you have to move the charging base to each level you want the V3 Max to clean.
More smart features
Thanks to the improved AI core algorithm, the V3 Max almost never gets lost (if ever).
Also thanks to the A35 quad-core processor and SLAM (simultaneous localization and mapping), the V3 Max can quickly process sensor information and adjust its path in real time. It is quite quiet as well and should not get louder than a microwave.
Smart control
Control the V3 Max with the quick-to-set-up Mi Home app, Amazon Alexa, or Google Assistant. Via the app, you can:
- Schedule a cleaning.
- Get maintenance updates.
- And more…
You can choose between cleaning in order, pointed cleaning, virtual walls, and no-go zones.
With Alexa and Assistant, you can dispatch voice commands.
What about carpets?
The V3 Max works on carpets as well. In fact, it automatically increases suction when it encounters them, although that takes some time. It can also transition from floors to carpets if there is a height difference of 2 cm.
This is quite a good vacuum, and its strong performance remains even when transitioning from surface to surface, which is especially impressive.
Although not explicitly for high-pile carpets, it is not bad with them either. You would just have to frequently check on the V3 Max if it attempts to clean thick carpets and rugs. It may start erroring.
On a closing note, the V3 Max has brush-less DC motors, specifically the Japanese Nidec motors.
Is the mopping any good?
While the mopping gets the job done, the V3 Max may be too eager to mop carpets as well, which is not supposed to happen, so be sure to set no-go zones there.
Conclusion
The Viomi V3 Max is an impressive robot vacuum-mop hybrid with minor flaws you can work around.
- Good vacuum
- Good mop
- Transitions well
- Convenient app
- Slow suction-auto boost
- Spotty LiDAR
- Tries to mop carpets
- Needs dock relocation
