Shark RV2001WD AI VACMOP

The two star features of this robot vacuum-mop are Shark suction and Sonic Mopping, the latter of which delivers a hundred scrubs per minute. There is also AI Laser Navigation.

AI Laser Navigation is supposed to guarantee entire home coverage with precise row-by-row cleaning at any time of the day while avoiding 4″ high objects or taller.

This is a LiDAR-based bot, and LiDAR stands for light detection and ranging, perhaps most known for helping bots navigate in the dark.

Unique modes

Essentially, the VACMOP mode vacuums and mops your floor at the same time. Carpets are to be avoided with in-app carpet detection.

As for the UltraClean Mode, it is to pick up all types of dirt and debris. You can select this mode through the SharkClean app to target specific rooms, high-traffic areas, or spots for multi-directional deep cleaning. You can set no-go zones as well.

The harsh reality

Although the above sounds good on paper, you may notice your personal RV2001 not showing any signs of mapping, especially due to its avoidance of cleaning a designated room, inability to identify high-traffic spots, and struggles identifying carpets. Even if mapping actually takes place, only one map can be saved.

On the bright side, featured is Shark’s self-cleaning brush roll that picks up pet hair and removes it from the brush roll while cleaning.

A couple of observations

An observation is that the RV2001’s suction hole seems wider than average, contributing to more productive vacuuming sessions, strictly regarding suction.

Another observation is that this Shark bot transitions from surface type to surface type well, even if there is a height difference.

Of course, if about to run out of battery, the RV2001 docks itself to recharge.

More on advanced control

If you are not app-savvy, you can also use Alexa or Assistant to:

  • Set a cleaning schedule.
  • Trigger cleaning on demand.
  • Activate UltraClean mode.

Voice control in the RV2001’s case is actually not that bad of an option because the app is quite rudimentary, and it is quite difficult to set up.

Conclusion

Given the VACMOP’s wonky mapping and app, Shark products have seen better days, so look elsewhere. Your experience with this bot may depend highly on whether or not you receive a defective unit.

  • Above-average suction
  • Threshold crossing
  • Okay mopping
  • Highly unaware
  • Difficult app
