Dreame D9 Robot Vacuum
Dreame makes Xiaomi-branded vacuums. The Dreame Bot D9 is a robot vacuum that utilizes LiDAR technology and the SLAM algorithm to map your home and determine the most efficient cleaning route, which usually starts near walls and then goes toward the center.
LiDAR makes the D9 function even when it is dark. Getting lost is a rarity for the D9, and when it bumps into things, it does so gently. You can even set no-go zones.
The map and the app
One downside is that the D9 does not save maps, but you can tell the D9 exactly where to clean using the interactive map it uploads to the app. The app is where you can also choose between four suction levels and three water volumes. That is correct. This is a robot vacuum-mop hybrid that aims to:
- Clean dust and dirt from carpets.
- Remove dry debris, grime, and spills from hard floors.
The mop is not too wet nor too dry: it has the right balance. However, it is not too effective, especially because using your own detergent will likely damage it, so you are left with subpar results. On the bright side, for vacuuming, the dustbin is quite generously sized.
Back to the app, you can schedule cleanings even when you are out and about. It even shows you when you need to replace parts, but take this with a grain of salt. Your judgment is probably better.
On the D9 are three buttons: spot, clean, and dock, but you will probably use the app more.
The D9 is compatible with Amazon Alexa too. You can dispatch voice commands.
How does it clean?
The D9 employs an integrated cleaning system, starring a Nidec brushless motor and an efficient filter with streamlined airflow. The D9 can cross thresholds up to 20 mm tall. If it encounters a carpet, it will automatically boost suction to ensure the best cleaning. It goes back to the base on its own if it needs to charge. Although versatile, the D9 works best on carpets.
Its main flaw is only doing a maximum of two runs around an area. Three runs are usually needed to make a surface spotless. By the end of the second run, some debris will have been scattered by the D9, so a third run would probably be able to clean that up. Unfortunately, you will likely have to follow up manually.
Conclusion
The Dreame Bot D9 is a robot vacuum-mop hybrid that may interest you if you do not have other options.
- Efficient on carpets
- Big dustbin
